For our cooking course, each individual had the opportunity to cook 6 dishes of their choice as well as making a curry paste. It was a great experience and we look forward to trying out the recipes back home for our family and friends to try! Later in the day, we ran into our old travel buddies, Amy and Erin, who just arrived after spend 3 days traveling on boat and bus from Laos to come meet up with us. We all went to the Night Bazaar and enjoyed a few beers and market shopping. The day ended with a relaxing 1-hour foot massage :)
On Tuesday, we enjoyed a full-day tour out in the Chiang Mai countryside. First on the agenda was a 1-hour-plus elephant riding at a beautiful conservation. What an amazing experience that was! We each had the chance to ride on our elephant’s head! Ban Ya, our 35-year-old elephant, had a nice patch of coarse hair on his head which would rub our legs. He loved his bananas so we ended up feeding him 3 large bunches of them. Next on the agenda was a 40-minute trek through the jungle to a modest-size waterfall. Following the jungle was a visit to a minority hill tribe where the Nick & Ben bought a handmade purple & gold silk scarf. There were kitties and piglets everywhere! It was a funny sight to see all the piglets follow Nick around. We enjoyed a huge feast for lunch at a nearby village restaurant- ka pow chicken, vegetable soup, stir-fried veggies, and heaps of steam rice and fresh pineapple.
Huge lunch feast at a nearby village restaurant - ka pow, soup, veggies and heaps of steam rice and fresh, cold pineapple. For our last activity of our tour, we went on a 1-hour bamboo rafting ride down a narrow river - definitely a unique experience.
Next stop, paradise.
