Paradise Vacation in Phuket: May 28th-30th

We flew into Phuket Wednesday morning from Chiang Mai. We went straight to Patong Beach where enjoyed body surfing till the sun set. And what a beautiful sunset it was! We had a savory seafood dinner at the famous Patong Seafood Restaurant: pepper & garlic fried squid, fried rice w/fresh crab meat, panaeng curry with chicken, veggie-cashew w/prawns stir-fry, and real fish cakes. After dinner, we took a stroll down a wide street known for its wild nightlife. Bars and clubs lined up the whole street, neon lights lit up the sky and lady boys were everywhere! For dessert, we enjoyed a gigantic sundae called the Chocolate Earthquake at Swenson’s. YUM.

The next day, we rented motos and rode along the west side of the island. We enjoyed the great panoramic view of Phuket Island on one of the island’s highest peaks. A large marble sitting-Buddha was being constructed on the peak we were on. Next scenic point was Prothep Cape, the most southern tip on Phuket Island. It supposedly has the best sunset viewpoint. Following the Cape was a stop at the small beach, Kata Noi. There was great surf and hardly any tourists. The sunset was AMAZING.
We had dinner at one of the restaurants located in the seafood night market: chili-paste squid, steamed clams with chili oyster sauce, fried rice w/shrimp, veggie stir-fry, and plenty of beer Chang to go around. We enjoyed watching Patong Nightlife and the Boston-Pistons Eastern Conference game over a few beers to cap off the day.

We rented motos again on Friday. This time, we went to explore the east side of the island. We drove into Phuket town and had lunch. Next was the Port of Phuket where we were mesmerized by the various blues of the ocean. We did some swimming at Kata Beach but left early and found better surf at Karong Beach just north of Kata. Our best surf of the trip was found at Karong Beach . We enjoyed the huge waves, super warm water and the sunset. Dinner at the same seafood restaurant from the previous night. We ate more than a kilo’s worth of Squid. The cook prepared the squid three ways for us: fried w/pepper & garlic; tom yum style with ginger; stir-fried in chili paste. We also ordered fried rice and pad siew (one of Ben’s favorite Thai noodle dishes). For dessert, Ben bought 10lbs worth of fresh fruit: mangosteens, rambuttans, and durian (much to Nick’s dismay!).

We had a wonderful time in paradise. Our last day together and in Thailand would be spent back in Bangkok.
